Japanese Bathing Etiquette

A Japanese bath is used for soaking and relaxing in - you do not wash yourself in the bath, you wash yourself before entering the bath. Lockers are provided for you to store your clothes, and shampoo and soap is provided for you to wash before entering the bathtub.

BEFORE getting into the bath (either outdoors or indoors)

1. Please shower/wash yourself
2. Please rinse off all soap and shampoo

DURING your bath, please relax and enjoy your bathing experience. You can use the taps to alter the water temperature.

AFTER you have finished bathing

3. Please leave the hot water running gently so that the next person can also enjoy a hot bath.
